Brother can you spare a dime?
Once I built a railroad, made it run
Made it race against time
Once I built a rairoad, now it's done
Brother can you spare a dime?
Once I built a tower to the sun
Brick and rivet and lime
Once I built a tower, now it's done
Brother can you spare a dime?
Once in khaki suits
Gee, we looked swell
Full of that yankee Doodle De Dum
Half a million boots went slogging through hell
I was the kid with the drum
Say don't you remember, they called me Al
It was Al all the time
Say don't you remember, I'm your pal!

Blue Valentines
She sends me blue valentines
all the way from philadelphia
to mark the anniversary
of someone that I used to be
and it feels just like there's
a warrant out for my arrest
got me checkin' in my rearview mirrror
and I'm always on the run
thats why I change my name
and I didn't think you'd ever find me here
to send me blue valentines
like half forgotten dreams
like a pebble in my shoe
as I walk these streets
and the ghost of your memory
is the thistle in the kiss
and the burgler that that can break a roses neck
it's the tattooed broken promise
that I hide beneath my sleeve
and I see you every time I turn my back
she sends me blue valentines
though I try to remain at large
they're insisting that our love
must have a culogy
why do I save all of this madness
in the nightstand drawer
there to haunt upon my shoulders
baby I know
I'd be luckier to walk around everywhere I go
with a blind and broken heart
that sleeps beneath my lapel
she sends me blue valentines
to remind me of my cardinal sin
I can never wash the guilt
or get these bloodstains off my hands
and it takes a lot of whiskey
to make these nightmares go away
and I cut my bleedin' heart out every nite
and I die a little more on each st. valentine day
remember that I promised I would
write you...
these blue valentines
blue valentines

Carnival
Well, I've walked these streets
A virtual stage, it seemed to me
Makeup on their faces
Actors took their places next to me Well, I've walked these streets
In a carnival, of sights to see
All the cheap thrill seekers vendors and the dealers
They crowded around me Have I been blind have I been lost
Inside myself and my own mind
Hypnotized, mesmerized by what my eyes have seen? Well, I've walked these streets
In a spectacle of wealth and poverty
In the diamond markets the scarlet welcome carpet
That they just rolled out for me And I've walked these streets
In the madhouse asylum they can be
Where a wild-eyed misfit prophet
On a traffic island stopped and he raved of saving me
(rpt 1) Have I been blind, have I been lost
Have I been blind, have I been mean
Have I been strong Hypnotized, mesmerized by what my eyes have seen
In that great street carnival, in that carnival?
Roxanne
you don't have to put on the red light
those days are over
you don't have to sell your body to the night
Roxanne
you don't have to wear that dress tonight
walk the streets for money
you don't care if it's wrong or if it's right
Roxanne
you don't have to put on the red light
I loved you since I knew you
I wouldn't talk down to you
I have to tell you just how I feel
I won't share you with another boy
I know my mind is made up
so put away your make up
told you once I won't tell you again
It's a bad way
Roxanne
you don't have to put on the red light
Roxanne
you don't have to put on the red light
Stairway to Heaven
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven.
There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it makes me wonder.
There's a feeling I get when I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who stand looking.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it really makes me wonder.
And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter.
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now,
It's just a spring clean for the may queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on.
And it makes me wonder.
Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know,
The piper's calling you to join him,
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind.
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll. And she's buying a stairway to heaven
“You can close your eyes” es una preciosa muestra. Es un grande entre los grandes.
YOU CAN CLOSE YOUE EYES
Well the sun is surely sinking down, but the moon is slowly rising.
So this old world must still be spinning round and I still love you.
So close your eyes, you can close your eyes, it's all right.
I don't know no love songs and I can't sing the blues anymore.
But I can sing this song and you can sing this song when I'm gone.
It won't be long before another day, we gonna have a good time.
And no one's gonna take that time away. You can stay as long as you like.
So close your eyes, you can close your eyes, it's all right.
I don't know no love songs and I can't sing the blues anymore.
But I can sing this song and you can sing this song when I'm gone.
Coolsville
I and Braggar, and Junior Lee,
well that's the way we always thought it would be
In the Winston lips of September, how we met
Decked out like aces, we'd beat anybody's bet
Cuz we was Coolsville...
cuz we was Coolsville
Well you stick it here;
you stick it over there;
it never fits
And now the hungry night wants more and more
and you're chippyin' your little kiss.
I jumped all his jokers,
but he trumped all my tricks
But I swear to God
I thought this one was smart enough to stick it into Coolsville...
and stick it into Coolsville...
Ooh, Daddy, stick it into Coolsville
So now it's J and B, and me,
That sounds close,
but it ain't the same
but that's okay
Hot City don't hurt that much
When everything feels the same
Well the real thing come and the real thing go...
Well the Real Thing is Back in Town...
Ask me if you wanna know The way to Coolsville...
I hear you wanna go back to Coolsville?
Then come on, I'll take you back... to Coolsville.
